Frequently Asked Questions

What payment methods include a fee?
We apply a fee to monthly Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) transactions. One Inc, our third-party payment processor, applies separate fees to the following payment types: credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo.

When did these fees take effect?
A 2.99% fee for debit and credit card transactions was introduced in October 2024, when we began our relationship with One Inc., our third-party payment processor. One Inc. applies this fee for use of their card payment system.

Effective July 1, 2025, this fee will change to a flat $9.99 per transaction.

A $2.00 EFT fee took effect on December 1, 2024, for all new business and renewing policies.

Note: California policyholders may have a different EFT fee effective date, which can vary depending on the line of business.

Why did One Inc. change their fee?
One Inc. updated its fee structure following a review of card payment regulations to ensure full compliance with card network rules governing debit and credit card transaction fees.

Why $9.99?
This amount reflects the average cost of card processing. By switching to a flat fee, customers know what to expect, regardless of the payment amount.

This seems more expensive than before – how is that fair?
We understand that for some customers, especially those with smaller payments, this may feel like an increase. However, many customers making larger payments will now pay less. Our goal was to find a model that is compliant with card network policies and have worked to implement this model on the advice of our payment processor. Fees can be avoided by using another payment method.

Can I avoid the $9.99 fee?
Absolutely! You can avoid the card transaction fee by using alternative payment methods such as paying with your checking or savings account, mailing a check, or setting up autopay via EFT.

My debit card is attached to my checking account – why should I have to pay a fee to use it?
Unfortunately, payments made by debit card are subject to similar fees to those made with credit cards even though the debit card pulls from your checking account. We would be happy to assist you in making a payment that drafts directly from your account to avoid card fees.

Does the card fee apply to payments made via Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo?
Yes, the $9.99 fee applies to payments made with these methods.

Why were fees implemented?
One Inc. charges a fee to cover the costs imposed by card networks and banks for processing debit and credit card payments. We charge a separate fee for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payments to help offset the rising costs associated with processing electronic transactions. These fees allow us to maintain high-quality service, enhance our payment offerings, and keep overall pricing competitive.

Are you making money off these fees?
We do not profit from these fees. The full amount is either retained by One Inc. to cover transaction processing costs or helps offset the rising expenses associated with electronic payments.

If I have multiple policies, are you going to charge a card fee for each payment on all of them?
Yes, the $9.99 fee applies to each payment made for the individual policies with a debit or credit card.

How will I know if I’m being charged a fee?
For credit card fees, the amount charged will be clearly displayed at the time of payment. For EFT payments, your Schedule of Payments will display all installment amounts and a $2.00 fee will be added to each installment amount.

What if I have concerns about these new fees?
We value your feedback and are committed to addressing any concerns you may have. Please feel free to reach out to us at 800.247.2643 or contact your agent for any additional questions or concerns.
